Reporting to the Design Manager, you will take the lead in preparing project management, structural calculations and drawings for building superstructures, including supervision & mentoring of Structural and Graduate Engineers.
What you’ll do:
- Adherence to the Integrated Management System
- Undertaking concept designs and planning at concept stage on a wide variety of buildings
- The production of structural engineering calculations for building superstructures including light gauge steel frames, hot rolled transfer structures, composite floor slabs etc.
- Delivering excellent project work within agreed deadlines including establishing client briefs, appropriate fees, and commercial management through to completion
- Interact and cultivate relations with clients and other project members
- Monitoring site works to establish that it is being carried out in accordance with specifications and methods statements
- Keeping up to date with the relevant legislation changes and current industry guidance to ensure the objectives of the company and client are achieved
- Representing Sigmat at meetings with client and suppliers
- Managing and mentoring of Engineers & Graduate Engineers
- Undertaking site visits as and when required
- Lead, advise and direct junior staff in producing designs, carrying out research and providing reports for the required structural works on our engineering projects
- Checking of designs and drawings and other works undertaken by junior members or detailing staff, providing feedback where necessary
What you’ll bring:
- Experience as a lead structural engineer on projects
- Light Gauge Steel experience is essential (preferably load bearing)
- Able to demonstrate a working knowledge of current codes of practice
- Comfortable undertaking calculations by hand and using spreadsheets. Experience using Trimble design software (Tekla Structural Designer &/or Tedds) would be beneficial
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team and alongside colleagues and the external design team to provide engineering solutions
- Familiarity with BIM
- Bachelor’s degree BEng / BSc or Masters degree MEng / MSc that meets the engineering academic requirements for progression to Chartership
- Significant progress towards Chartership
